Death’s head roaches are a beautiful and interesting roach that can be kept as pets or used as feeders. The name “death’s head” comes from the orange “jack o’ lantern” face on the pronotum. Nymphs (not pictured) are greyish brown like dubia and like to burrow through the substrate, but adults tend to stay above ground where they are more visible. This species appreciates a variety of fruits and vegetables such as carrots, potatoes, apples, or oranges. Care is similar to dubia but these roaches prefer temperatures a bit cooler than dubia (around 75-80°F), and should have a few inches of substrate like coco fiber for the nymphs to burrow in.
